Robert "Bob" Colon and the Cushing Kerr Macs/Tulsa Oilers story May 31, 2022 Post

  POST 26 Robert "Bob" Colon        CHS Class of 1963  Robert "Bob" A. Colon, a sportswriter whose long career was marked by accuracy, dedication and a passion for small college athletics, died Saturday, shortly after filing his final story for The Oklahoman. Colon, who was 60, died from a heart attack while walking back to his hotel room after covering the Big 12 wrestling championships in Omaha, Neb. He was born Jan. 9, 1945, in Cushing to Cenia and Marvin Colon. Bob graduated from Cushing High School in 1963 and from Oklahoma State University in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He worked more than 37 years for The Oklahoman, joining the news copy desk on Aug. 7, 1967, and moving to the sports department on Oct. 1, 1968. After serving nearly 20 years as sports editor of The Oklahoma City Times and then The Oklahoman, Colon became the newspaper's senior sports writer on July 3, 2001.                                        (the following story wa
